Bird watching excursion

A bird watching excursion took place in Dviete floodplain nature park on April 28, 2012. Event coincided with the highest flood water level in Dviete floodplain this spring, and it was possible to observe migrating waterfowl and waders in flooded grasslands. After a short walk in the vicinity of Putnu sala, including pasture-grounds, arranged within the LIFE+ project, participants travelled to the left side of Dviete river, staying for a while in several gathering sites of waterfowl. Hundreds of White-fronted Geese, various duck species - Goldeneyes, Tufted Ducks, Shovelers, Wigeons, Mallards, waders - Oystercatchers, Ruffs, sandpipers, as well as many other birds were observed there.

There were 58 participants from Bebrene, Ilūkste, Rubeņi and Riga, including four children of pre-school age, 26 school-children and 28 adults.
