Educational seminar on biologically valuable grasslands and nature symbols of the year 2011
On July 11, informative and educational seminar on nature symbols of 2011, main principles of management of biologically important grasslands and relevant challenges was held at the information centre of Dviete floodplain nature park. Seminar was led by Jānis Kotāns, senior expert of the Department of Planning and Data, Nature Protection Board and Inita Bružika, senior state environmental inspector of Latgale Regional Administration, Nature Protection Board.
Information on nature symbols of the current year was provided in context with challenges of management of habitats of relevant species (nature-friendly management of forests and waters). Participants were interested in main principles of management of biologically valuable grasslands, mowing methods, management of sites of protected plant species in biologically valuable grasslands. Seminar included identification of indicator species of these grasslands in the field.
Land owners of Bebrene parish of Ilūkste municipality and participants of the Association of Environmental Protection of Sēlija took part in the seminar. The Association was founded in June 2011; its goals are connected with nature conservation and environmental protection in Sēlija municipality.
