LIFE+ project DVIETE will be prolonged

According to amendments of the agreement with European Commission, coming into force after signing of the documents, LIFE+ project DVIETE will be prolonged for a year - till September 30, 2015 - within the limits of the initial budget.

Prolongation of the project was necessary due to complications with agreements on the technical project of Dviete river restoration arisen in summer 2013. During the first half of 2014 the technical project was reworked, excluding the problematic land property from the section, planned for restoration.

Technical restoration of Dviete river are planned during this autumn and winter. In 2015, seminars with demonstration of restored part of Dviete floodplain will take place. River restoration will be reflected also in the publication, information boards and the documentary film.

Grassland restoration will continue during autumn and winter of 2014 as well, including mulching of stumps of bushes and trees in floodplain grasslands. Management of grazing grounds will continue during whole project lifetime, as well as monitoring of breeding corncrakes and groundwater level to evaluate the impact of projects actions.
