Beginning of floods in Dviete floodplain

Spring floods in Dviete floodplain started unusually late this year – during the second week of April (usually at the end of March), when local snow cover began to melt faster due to rapid rising of air temperature and rainfall. As a result water came out of the banks of Dviete river during the end of the last week. At the beginning of this week, when ice started to drift in Daugava river, Dviete floodplain filled with flood waters of Daugava, rapidly flowing in floodplain grasslands upstream Dviete village through the arch of Dviete bridge.

Water level in Dviete floodplain at Putnu sala has risen for 60-70 cm during previous day.
