Visit of LIFE+ project HYDROPLAN in Dviete floodplain
On October 11, 2012, participants of the organisations, taking part in implementation of LIFE+ project HYDROPLAN ('Restoring the hydrological regime of Ķemeri National Park') – Nature Protection Board and Latvian Fund for Nature, as well as the experts (20 persons in total) visited Dviete floodplain nature park in order to exchange experience in river restoration with LIFE+ project DVIETE.
Local co-ordinator of LIFE+ project DVIETE Benita Štrausa (Ilūkste municipality) showed the information centre of Dviete floodplain nature park in ‘Gulbji’ farm. Manager of the project Edmunds Račinskis (Latvian Fund for Nature) gave a presentation on nature conditions of Dviete floodplain, it’s management history and activities, implemented and still planned within the LIFE+ project DVIETE, accenting river restoration and technical details of it’s planning.
Ilze Priedniece (LFN) talked about communication activities of the project. Kristīne Aksjuta, a representative of LIFE+ project EREMITA MEADOWS also took part in the meeting, shortly presenting the project. Dviete floodplain is one of several areas of LIFE+ project EREMITA MEADOWS activities.
After presentations and discussions in ‘Gulbji’, participants went on a short excursion in Dviete floodplain, visiting restored grasslands and continuing discussions on challenges of river floodplain restoration.
