Third meeting of the steering group

The third meeting of the steering group of LIFE+ project DVIETE took place on September 21 in the information centre of Dviete floodplain in 'Gulbji' farm. The meeting was opened by the chairman of the group Inita Bružika (Nature Protection Board). Afterwards the manager of the project Edmunds Račinskis (Latvian Fund for Nature) reported on the course of habitat management actions, Ilze Priedniece (LFN) and Dāvis Drazdovskis (Elm Media) – on the activities in the field of information dissemination within the period since previous meeting of the steering group.

After questions and discussion, concerning mainly technical details of river restoration, and lunch, participants of the meeting went on an excursion within the project area. They visited the site, where it is planned to build a platform, grazing areas, one of the Dviete river old river sections, where it is planned to restore water flow of the river, as well as the bird-watching tower, from where the landscape of floodplain with the grasslands, restored during the last winter within the LIFE+ project, was seen.

12 persons took part in the meeting. Previous meetings of the group took place on June 9, 2011 in Bebrene and January 27, 2012 in Riga.
