Bird-watching tower painted

In order to ensure longer maintenance of wooden parts of the bird-watching tower, built in 2009 with financial support from the Netherlands Society for the Protection of Birds at the lake Skuķu, painting works took place at the end of August and beginning of September, 2012.

Painting material - 'ecological wooden linseed oil paint'– was purchased within the project 'Maintenance of bird-watching tower in the Dviete floodplain nature park', implemented by the Association of Parishes of Dviete Valley, financially supported by the client club 'Mēs paši' of State-owned joint stock company 'Mortgage and Land Bank of Latvia'. Painting work was done by volunteers - Edmunds Račinskis, Dāvis Drazdovskis, Māris Pilāts, Dāvis Gruberts, Aivars Štrauss, Valdis Vilišķis, Jurgita Gruberte and Benita Štrausa. To paint wooden constructions with a height of 10 meters, also elements of mountain-climbers' equipment were used.

The tower near Putnu sala is one of the favorite tourism objects in the Dviete floodplain nature park. Visitors can take a look on the lake Skuķu and floodplain grasslands, restored within the LIFE+ project, from the tower. The tower is also included in yearly competition of bird-watching, supported by the company CEMEX.
