Radio broadcasts concerning LIFE+ project DVIETE

After the celebration of the 20th anniversary of LIFE program in Dviete floodplain nature park on June 8, information on Dviete floodplain, LIFE program and LIFE+ project was spread through several broadcasts of Latvian radio (Latvijas radio) during the last month.

Within the program „Zināmais nezināmajā" (Latvian Radio 1) on June 22 Anitra Tooma interviewed manager of the LIFE+ project Edmunds Račinskis, who talked on the project area, it's background, birds of the area, habitat restoration activities within the LIFE+ project and importance of the floodplain in collection of waters of Daugava river during spring floods. Interviews with Ilona Mendziņa (Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development) on funding of LIFE program for nature conservation projects in Latvia and with Benita Štrausa (Ilūkste municipality) on nature values of Dviete floodplain, history of it's management and implementation of LIFE+ project, taken on June 8 in Dviete floodplain, were broadcasted as well.

Within the program "Kustoņu pasaule" on June 24 Edmunds Račinskis talked about several meadow bird species of Dviete floodplain – the Corncrake, the Great Snipe and the Common Snipe.

There were four broadcasts, concerning Dviete floodplain an LIFE+ project within the program of Latvian Radio 4 "Noasa šķirsts" (in Russian). On June 24 an interview with the Board of the Latvian Fund for Nature (LFN) Ģirts Strazdiņš was broadcasted. Ģirts Strazdiņš talked about the role of LIFE program in nature conservation, LIFE projects, implemented by the LFN up to date, as well as the activities, planned and already implemented within the LIFE+ project DVIETE.

On July 8 Benita Štrausa talked about the role of the beaver in nature and human life, on July 15 the interview with Jolanta Bāra (Daugavpils University) on beetle species of conservation concern was broadcasted, which are investigated and their habitats managed within the LIFE+ project EREMITA MEADOWS. On July 29 it was possible to listen to an interview with the manager of LIFE+ project DVIETE Edmunds Račinskis. The topic was the flag species of the project – the Corncrake.

Information on LIFE+ project DVIETE will be available also in a printed form – a story with photos of the LIFE+ project is prepared for the next issue of the journal „Vides Vēstis".
